# UK Crime Tracker

An interactive Streamlit dashboard of police-recorded crime by local area
across England and Wales, shown in proportion to population.

- **Search any area** (for example, Solihull) and see its recorded crime count,
  rate per 100,000 residents, year-on-year change, quarterly trend and offence mix.
- **Top 10 areas** ranked by crime rate per 100,000, with a minimum-population
  filter to avoid small-area noise.
- **Full sortable table** of every area with counts and rates.

## Data

- Crime counts: Home Office [Police recorded crime and outcomes open data
  tables](https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/police-recorded-crime-and-outcomes-open-data-tables)
  (Community Safety Partnership tables), fetched live and cached.
- Population: ONS mid-year population estimates (bulk CSV).
- Coverage: England and Wales, latest release is discovered automatically.
- Note: rates use residential population, so areas with large daytime or visitor
  populations (for example Westminster) show high rates.

Runs on the Docker SDK (the built-in Streamlit SDK was deprecated on
2025-04-30), serving Streamlit on port `7860`. The build pre-computes the data
cache so the app loads instantly.
